Since the baby is flying (on Southwest I assume) with the father on the same day, this doesn't seem like a stretch for you to present the stroller bag and say that the baby is flying with her father. I forget) and you can put the car seat attached to the base inside the bag and it will be easily handled as one item - I'd curbside check that myself, but that's up to you.
