Any analog audio signal from an external DAC should work fine with the Edifer's RCA (red/white) input. But I think I would just stick to the optical input. I like audio.

However, if the speakers have a USB/optical input, or your onboard gives enough gain/high enough sample rate, you are good to go. Test out the speakers first, and if they don't work right, get a DAC.
